Skiing and snowboarding in Austria and South Africa

In my blog I will be exploring different extreme sports and hobbies including skiing, snowboarding, bungy jumping, skydiving, kiteboarding, rc racing and much more.

If you are the adrenalin junkie seeking a rush or if you are just interested in a fun filled hobby, watch this blog. It may just bring a whole new interest to your life.

The first blog covers skiing and snowboarding in Austria and South Africa.

I went to St. Johann in Austria their winter holiday and bought my ski gear there at the local ski shops, as it is much cheaper than trying to buy it here in South Africa. We stayed only about 100 meters from the ski lifts which helped a lot as we could just walk up to the lifts for a ski. The small ski villiage has a very polite and helpfull population, and the nightlife is good, most people tear up the slopes in the day, and warm up in the pubs at night, which provides for a very good overall vibe.

We also travelled to Steinplatte, which is another ski resort very close to St Johann, the snow conditions were much better there at first, and more beginner friendly, but also has its collection of more challenging runs for the more enthusiastic skier or snowboarder. There is a shuttle bus which runs from St. Johann to other close-by ski resorts.

If you are looking to go on a ski holiday to Europe, I will definately reccomend going to St Johann.

On Saturday of this week, I will be going to Tiffendell Ski Resort in South Africa which is in the Southern Drakensberg in the Eastern Cape. It is the only ski resort in Southern Africa and has been open for South Africans to go and experience snow without travelling very far.

Tiffendell has qualified instructors from all over the world to make sure you get the basics right, but they also offer intermediate and advanced lessons.

Tiffendell has a very strong party vibe, there is entertainment in the bar every night including cabaret shows and the traditionall ski burning ceremony where the skis are offered for snow for the next winter.

I have been going to Tiffendell for 12 consecutive years and know pretty much what to expect, but with it beiing such a developing resort there is something new every year.

Tiffendell provides a very fun experience for the whole family or for a bunch of friends, there is something for everyone.

Good luck with planning those skiing trips.
